DPC’s First Community Food Collection displayed Doylestown’s Care & Compassion
Doylestown Borough residents stepped up in a big way – displaying care and compassion – during Doylestown Presbyterian Church’s first ever Community Food Collection.
The community filled nearly 150 shopping bags, which were left on their doorsteps by Doylestown Presbyterian Church volunteers on Friday, July 26.
On Sunday, another set of church members and friends picked up the filled bags, left a special thank-you treat, and delivered the bags to the Doylestown Food Pantry operated by the Bucks County Housing Group (BCHG).
“This is a new mission effort for DPC so we were thrilled to see volunteers from the church work so hard to make this happen. And it was so special to see the community contribute the way it did, by filling so many bags with food that will directly help those in our area struggling with food insecurity,” said Amy Edenson, DPC’s Mission Moderator.
The donations continued to roll in on Monday as several residents dropped off food-filled bags to the church.
BCHG’s Food Program Manager Steven Keller said he was thrilled to see how the food collection turned out.
“A lot of people came through. We got a ton of food,” he said. “It’s always appreciated but especially in the summer when our donations drop. We’re very grateful for the food and for the turnout and we hope to see it happen again next year.”
In addition to DPC’s partnering with the BCHG for the collection, all the shopping bags were donated by GIANT Supermarket.
