Growth Groups

Growing in faith is never easy. While it takes personal strength and the willingness to look within, sometimes help from others on a similar journey can be a gift. Joining a group can put you in touch with those searching for answers and seeking a meaningful relationship with God and others. The small group size encourages insightful, open discussion and time for all perspectives to be shared.

If you have interest in learning more about, or joining an existing group – or even facilitating a new one – we encourage you to to click the button below and indicate which group interests you. A leader will then be in touch. You can also speak directly with Pastor Becca or any of the Adult Education Committee Members: Bob Maxwell (moderator), Kieran Cody, Diane Frater, Anne Hutchinson, Dody Shaw, and Marilyn Weichman.

Groups that are about to get started

Tuesday Morning Group

Join Pastor Mac Schafer in the DPC library from 7 to 8 a.m. for “Waking Up with the Word” each Tuesday during Lent.

The group will center on the scripture text for the upcoming Sunday sermon.  We will read the scripture several times and discuss the following questions in relation to the text:

  • What is a word or phrase that stands out to you from the text?
  • Allow the word or phrase to develop into a memory from your life, and
  • What is Christ calling you to through this passage?

There is no need to prepare for this group and you can miss sessions if you are out of town.  It doesn’t build through the weeks (other than just getting to know folks as we reflect together).

No need to RSVP. We’ll provide the Bibles…and the coffee!

Tuesday Night Group

This group will meet on Zoom Tuesday evenings at 7 pm during Lent to focus on the theme of “Restore unto me the joy of my salvation” through several familiar stories of Scripture. How did Moses & Miriam, Abram and Sarai, Lazarus, Mary & Martha, and the disciple John and Mary experience of joy even in incredibly challenging times? What can we learn for our lives? Led by Pastor Becca Bateman.

Wednesday Afternoon Lenten BYO Lunch Group

Take a mid-week break and join Pastor Mac Schafer on Wednesdays from 12 to 1 pm in the Celtic Cross Room for a time of discussion and reflection. You are welcome to come for one class or for all of them.  Bring a co-worker, friend or spouse!  This is open for everyone. Bring your own lunch and join Mac for this insightful time together.  First class is Wednesday, March 12 and runs through April 9.

Wednesday Night iLIGHT

Walter Brueggemann’s Interrupting Silence: God’s Command to Speak Out makes a passionate case through Scriptural analysis that God calls us to “break the silence of chaos with a command to the light.” This call rings louder today than ever before. We’ll gather to discuss this book on Zoom every other Wednesday from 7-8 pm for 6 sessions beginning on February 19. Led by Steve Spadt.

Thursday Night Women’s Group

This group has formed bonds of friendship over the years. A book is selected and discussed on occasional Thursdays at a member’s home or at DPC. This Lent, we will be reading “The Lord’s Prayer” by Adam Hamilton. Led by Linay Richards and Ann Petro.

Friday Morning Group

This group meets in the Library each week at 7:15 am (beginning February 21) to enjoy fellowship and discuss Christian writing and philosophy. This can come through a book study, watching a TV show at home and discussing each episode later, or examining other forms of content. This season’s focus is the book The Challenge of Acts: Rediscovering What the Church Is and Was” by N.T. Wright. Led by Terry Herring, Jay Stough, and Jeff Toner.
