Author Mike Sielski
February 23, 2025
Noted author, radio host, and award-winning sports columnist Mike Sielski will be joining us in Ruth I. Hughes Library at 9:30 to 10:15 am on Sunday, February 23. He will discuss his new book Magic in the Air: The Myth, the Mystery, and the Soul of the Slam Dunk. The book, according to its description on Amazon.com, “brings to life the tale of the dunk while balancing sharp socio-racial history and commentary with a romp through American sports and culture. There’s never been a basketball book quite like it.” Mike, a Doylestown resident, will be available to answer questions and sign copies of Magic in the Air which will be available for sale thanks to Doylestown Bookshop.
Mike has authored four books, including Fading Echoes: A True Story of Rivalry and Brotherhood from the Football Field to the Fields of Honor (about Central Bucks West senior football captain Bryan Buckley and Central Bucks East senior Colby Umbrell), and The Rise: Kobe Bryant and the Pursuit of Immortality. A co-host on Sports Radio 94 WIP, Mike has been a sports columnist for The Philadelphia Inquirer and Inquirer.com since 2013 and was formerly a reporter at The Wall Street Journal. His work has been anthologized in The Best American Sports Writing and The Year’s Best Sports Writing, and over his career he has been honored by the Associated Press Sports Editors, the Jenkins Medal for Excellence in Sportswriting, the Society of Professional Journalists, and the National Association of Black Journalists. He lives in Doylestown with his wife and two sons.
